Mica Brownfield, MA, NCC, LPC, CAATP - Owner/Therapist

Mica believes through our own life challenges we learn to adapt and become resilient, at times hindering our growth.  Mica aides this process by exploring your unique stories and pushing you through limitations that you have placed upon yourself.  Mica thrives to challenge you out of your comfort zone into deep reflection.  She assists to uncover barriers and work through obstacles, while simultaneously increasing your self-esteem, self-love, and unveiling your life purpose. 

Mica utilizes various modalities including mindfulness, trauma-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, Gottman Method, Animal Assisted Therapy (Certified Animal Assisted Therapy Professional), and crisis intervention.

Born and raised on the South Side of Saginaw, Michigan, Mica overcame tremendous hardships brought on by her violent neighborhood community and negative peer groups.  After High School, Mica sought change and attended Delta College where she was placed on the Deans List and Presidents List for academic achievements.  In 2004, Mica relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she continued her education receiving her undergraduate Bachelors Degree (BA) in Psychology from the University of Phoenix.  Mica then obtained her Masters Degree (MA) from Argosy University in Atlanta, a CACREP accredited  program.  Following graduation, Mica passed the National Certified Counseling examination to become a National Certified Counselor (NCC).  In 2013, Mica obtained professional licensure (ALPC) in the state of Georgia, beginning clinical work at a psychiatric residential hospital for children and adolescents.  In 2015, Mica relocated back to Michigan, in which she adapted her Michigan professional licensure (LPC) and continued clinical work in both outpatient settings and residential facilities  where she continued to specialize in crisis intervention and program management.  Mica has invested her skills as a School-Based Therapist, providing individual, family, and group therapy to diverse demographics.  Mica has operated as the Clinical Director for an established outpatient setting, providing supervision and maintaining ethical and practical application of clinical work for many staff. Mica has experience as both an Inpatient Therapist and a Crisis Intervention Therapist for those in imminent risks of self-harm and suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and acute psychosis at the local Hospital Emergency Room.   Most recently, her skillset is shared with the Saginaw Intermediate School District as a Mental Health Practitioner in various school settings- exploring needs, assessment, and building-wide change in advocacy of trauma-informed schools and social-emotional literacy for staff, students, and the community.

Mica is the proud mother of 3 phenomenal children who continue to influence a healthy and happy lifestyle.  Mica’s children have inspired her to author a beginning series of children’s mental health books, including her opening therapy book, “Feelings Are Hard!”.   Mica initiated and founded G.I.R.L.S Now, a program inclusive of both mental health and physical beauty components in partnership with a licensed cosmologist. G.I.R.L.S Now is dedicated to engaging young females  in exploring self-love, empowerment, and healthy relationship using an ongoing group approach. Mica believes in the importance of self-care for physical and emotional well-being.  She enjoys exercising daily (Peloton snob), coaching youth sports, writing, and travel. Mica enjoys spending time with her family & friends, including outdoor activities, watching movies, laughing, and playing board games.  Mica also adores time spent loving her Hairless Chinese Crested, Pepe; and her Bearded Dragon, Zuko Zen!

 In 2018, Manifest Life Counseling was established. Mica is highly motivated by individual determination and desire to change; it is her passion to help others in reshaping their world to embrace love, hope, kindness, and gratitude for life itself.

Nicole Bastian, LMSW, CAADC - Therapist

Nicole graduated with her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. In 2015, Nicole received her state social work licensure (LMSW). In 2015, Nicole obtained her Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Certification (CAADC). She currently works with various populations including children, adolescents, and adults. Nicole specializes in sex offender rehabilitation, sexual orientation and gender identity, EDMR, and trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Nicole also specializes in working with youth who have been exposed to trauma, including experience in a comprehensive Trauma Assessment Center- administering, scoring, and interpreting trauma assessments for children and adolescents. Nicole has facilitated cooperative parenting groups for those struggling with divorce and custody arrangements. Nicole began her social work journey 15 years ago, in which she has experience with youth in residential facilities and other various settings including schools, hospitals,  in-home care, and outpatient clinics. 

Nicole enjoys traveling, working out on her Peloton, reading, playing & watching sports, playing board games, and hanging out with friends and family- including being the best Aunt ever! Nicole has an authentic desire to connect and build relationships with others. Her compassion and empathy lead her in understanding client needs, along with supporting their growth through an unbiased lens and unconditional regard.

 
 

Chiquita Whittington, LMSW - Therapist

Chiquita received her Master’s in Social Work from Michigan State University. Chiquita has worked in the field of Mental Health since 2013 and received her full Michigan State Licensure in 2021. 

Chiquita has strengthened her social work practice by earning several different certifications: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Certificate, EMDR Certification, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). Chiquita has specialized in serving the at-risk population of youth in foster care, juvenile detention, and other areas of child welfare.

Chiquita has provided trauma informed therapy practices to children/young adults who have underwent extreme neglect and abuse. Chiquita has experience working with those with mild to moderate cognitive impairments, complex trauma histories, symptoms of depression, suicidality, ADHD, impulse control, mood disorders, stress management, life stressors and relationship challenges. Chiquita has facilitated individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and play therapy sessions.

Outside of work Chiquita enjoys spending time with her dog, hosting gatherings with family and friends, traveling, and reading. Over 8 years as a Social Worker and Chiquita remains passionate about the work that she does. She admires the connections that she makes, and strives towards creating culturally responsive therapy sessions, meeting the needs of individual clients. Chiquita’s goal is to offer a safe and freeing space for her clients to start on their journey of healing and happiness.
